Ventisqueros reinforces its leadership in sustainability with new logistics solutions and decarbonization goals
- The company took a new step towards more sustainable aquaculture by incorporating the use of certified biofuel in its salmon export shipments, in collaboration with Andes Integración Logística and the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd.
- “Sustainability is not an abstract concept; it is built day by day with strategic decisions, investment in technology, and a systemic view of our operations. Initiatives like these demonstrate that it is possible to move towards world-class salmon farming without compromising the planet we share,” noted Igor Stack, Technical Manager at Ventisqueros.
As part of its 2024 Strategic Decarbonization Plan, Ventisqueros began using certified biofuel in its international shipments, thanks to a partnership with Andes Integración Logística and the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd. With this measure, the company seeks to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 in its GHG emissions (scopes 1, 2, and 3) and immediately reduce CO₂ emissions from shipping by 25%.
“These types of partnerships reflect our commitment to concrete climate action. We know that environmental challenges require cross-cutting responses, and logistics is a critical part of our footprint. Committing to biofuels is not just a technical decision, it is a statement of principles,” said Igor Stack, Technical Manager at Ventisqueros.
This progress complements the achievements already reported in the company's ESG 2024 Report, which highlights a cumulative reduction of 31% in CO₂ emissions in scopes 1 and 2 since 2019, as well as a 48% decrease in emissions intensity per ton produced. In addition, 79.1% of the energy used by Ventisqueros in 2024 came from non-conventional renewable sources, and the company is ISO 50001 certified for energy efficiency.
“Sustainability is not an abstract concept; it is built day by day with strategic decisions, investment in technology, and a systemic view of our operation. Initiatives like these demonstrate that it is possible to move toward world-class salmon farming without compromising the planet we share,” added Stack.
Ventisqueros has also recovered 97% of its industrial waste, and is making progress towards its Zero Waste program to achieve 100% recovery by 2026, and has maintained 100% renewable electricity supply since 2020 at its processing plant and administrative offices.

Over the years, it has strengthened its commitment to socio-environmental responsibility through practices that guarantee traceability and transparency in all its production processes.
One of the most outstanding products that Ventisqueros will present will be Silverside salmon, a variety of Pacific salmon fed on a diet formulated to optimize its nutritional profile and minimize its environmental impact. This salmon, which has ASC certification and the Cosecha Viva seal, has been widely valued in different international markets thanks to its flavor, texture and superior quality.
The Ventisqueros team, led by its CEO, José Luis Vial, and COO, Javier Calvo, will be accompanied by other key executives of the company. During the fair, they will hold strategic meetings with business partners and relevant industry players, with the aim of strengthening ties, exploring new growth opportunities and further consolidating its global presence.
In this context, Calvo emphasized the importance of sustainability in the company value proposition: “More and more markets are valuing products with sustainable attributes and high quality standards. Ventisqueros becomes the first Chilean salmon company to achieve 100% ASC certification in harvested biomass
The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is a voluntary and independent certification program that addresses environmental and social challenges by evaluating criteria such as environmental protection, biodiversity, animal health and welfare, and the relationship between companies and the communities where they operate.
Ventisqueros, part of the German Schörghuber Group, reached a historic milestone in 2024 by becoming the first company in Chile—and the second worldwide—to certify 100% of its harvested biomass under the ASC standard, the most rigorous in the industry. This globally recognized certification ensures compliance with high standards in environmental, social, production, health, and governance aspects. Ventisqueros is also fully certified under BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices) and BRCGS (British Retail Consortium Global Standards).
José Luis Vial, CEO of Ventisqueros, stated:
“This certification reflects the effort and commitment of our entire team to promote more sustainable aquaculture. Meeting the highest standards not only strengthens our competitiveness, but also reaffirms our responsibility to the environment, local communities, and the entire value chain.”
By the end of 2024, Ventisqueros had certified 231,051 tons of salmon biomass under the ASC standard since 2015. Last year, 57% corresponded to Coho salmon and 43% to Atlantic salmon. In 2023, the company reached 98% ASC-certified production, demonstrating steady progress in its sustainability strategy.
Javier Calvo, CCO of Ventisqueros, added:
“In a highly competitive market, our goal is to differentiate ourselves through sustainability—meeting the expectations of customers and global stakeholders. ASC certification is a strategic asset that boosts our competitiveness, strengthens trust in our products, and underscores our commitment to responsible, high-value aquaculture.”
This milestone reaffirms Ventisqueros' commitment to excellence, sustainability, and social responsibility, while contributing to a more sustainable future for global aquaculture.
